Sun, Moon, and Rising

Created for the Highwood International Mural Festival, this work draws inspiration from both celestial phenomena and the atmosphere of Lake Michigan in summertime. The composition integrates the warmth of the setting sun and the quiet ascent of the rising moon, using their contrasting energies to anchor the work. Elements of water and air are reflected through fluid forms and wave-like line work, echoing the lake’s changing breezes, and shoreline. Local plant life is also woven in, grounding the piece in the natural ecosystem that thrives along the lake. These components create a layered visual narrative that captures the region’s seasonal character and its seamless connection between sky, water, and land.
